Police taser armed woman

The police in Vancouver had to taser a woman today.  Although the CBC’s headline makes it sound like it’s the officer’s fault for pulling the trigger, I believe it is the woman’s fault for not dropping her knife when so ordered.

Amnesty and human rights groups seem to be strongly against the police use of tasers against armed and dangerous suspects.  Maybe they would prefer that police use a lethal weapon instead of a less-lethal weapon.

Yes, people get hurt or die when they get tasered.  But if you’re going to wave a weapon in a crowd, you deserve to get tasered at the least.  You have shown that you have a disregard for the safety of others; thus, the police should do all they can to return the situation to safe.  They follow their rules of engagement, which generally order them to use the least-deadly option.  Generally the lowest option is a verbal command; however when someone keeps waving a knife when ordered to drop it, force escalates.  There was once a time that a bullet would have been used; now that we have a safer option, it should be used.
